GRRR! Adobe! What is UP with you guys and your YouTube videos only having audio come out of the left channel??? It was SO annoying to tolerate watching these videos…

OK… that aside. I’m loving PS. I’m glad to see that Adobe understands that it’s sometimes the small usability boosts that greatly increase the overall user experience.

And PS CS5 will be 64-bit capable right? That’s thing big shebang right there. Taking advantage of the power available.

I’d really like to see a new brush panel/window using grouping.
So lets say I have 3 groups of brushes I’d like to use “Paint”, “structure”, “stamps”. The way it works now, the brushes from all three groups would be in one list-view, having no real separation from eachother.

I suggest implementing groups that can be unfold/fold via little arrows.

This little feature would really make the life of many digital painters more easy and giving themto work more efficient.

I really think at this point all new ideas, all new propositions are pointless. There is 2 months left to official release…

  5. I’d like to be able to view items off the canvas, like in InDesign you can see the pasteboard. Can get hard working with big layers as the transform points vanish off the edge.

And WHEN will Adobe get ARTISTS to design the inteface of Photoshop so that it’s more user friendly? It looks like a freakin’ spread sheet, and is about as un-intuative as could be.

Until then, it’s Corel Painter for me.

I doubt that this is an official Adobe approved blog. Those of us who participate in the PreRelease program have to sign in blood that we will not release anything. They have released little snippets of information but it is so much more than what you are seeing. So before you start and blame them for the videos and the content take a deep breath and wait a couple of months. It will definitely be worth the wait.

The way a UI looks is only half of how useful it ends up being.

I think the design is sleek, and Adobe has been making good strides with making their UI act in an intuitive manner, even if that means having to memorize a lot of shortcuts in order to optimize workflow.

Adobe is going to really take the money on this upgrade! CS4 was such a code vacuum. I hope they are fully up to date and modern with this release, installer and all.
Adobe, please be a leader and have HTML 5 output for the Flash Professional IDE, that way you can grab HTML 5 by the horns and direct it’s development! Who cares about flash player anyways? You don’t even sell it! I only care about the IDE which I pay out the nose for! Adobe, after your hard work modernizing CS5 you have an opportunity to be an open standards pusher! Hopefully your PC pushing days are over!

My new sign on the side of the road will read “Will work for Adobe CS5!”

Adobe is lazy! The brush tools should have been implemented 8 years ago. Even Painter 4 8 years ago was more advanced in brushes.

Adobe! Stop sitting on your royal chair and DO new amazing stuff damn it! Have you lost your inspiration?

There is much to be said in certain areas. Innovation is great, but also typing in the way one app works and having similar functionality in other apps is a difficult, yet rewarding goal.

Many times, it’s the small things that make it worth while. For example:

Adobe Photoshop CS3 should have had the ability when you are laying down pen anchor points to hold down SPACEBAR and move the point on the fly, like in Illustrator CS3, but this was not in there.

Programs should be made to share functionality between apps where possible like this.

Right now, Adobe has 2 issues at hand: 1. Will the products be relatively stable (I have yet to see public betas to ensure a more solid release of the app) and 2. Will you provide decent post-release support (or are we doomed to 2 small updates, and you’re done til CS6?)

I would really like it if all the rulers/grids/guides for all Adobe applications functioned the way they do in InDesign. It would make life so much easier. Or even a way to save grids/guides from one app to another like .ase files.

How many times are we going to have to buy adobe software over and over again, I think they need to give us a free upgrade, there was so many bugs in programs like encore, premiere, etc… that i don’t know if i can trust adobe anymore. they’re worse than microsoft!

Hi, i think that this is useless, almost everything showed so far.
i would love Adobe to take in serious consideration to watch and learn from other softwares like The Foundry Nuke and Eyeon Fusion, they have some great tools for digital imaging manipulation and production, i just dont see new features, cs4 was totally a wasted release, and this appears to be the same.

Still you have under the hood the 3 most used application , photoshop, illustrator, indesign, add to those flash, but they are completely independant and with some annoying difference and workflow usage..
should be time to uniform them and make them more user friendly, the UI also look really chunky, considering is already too late, the relase date is near..i dont expect too much from what i saw.

Gonna stick with other softwares for now and see how cs5 will perform after release.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Thank you. M.

Thank you all for these great productivity improvements !

A big issue in previous versions of Photoshop was script management.

I can’t remember how often I lost my new scripts because I had to force quit Photoshop. Scripts should be saved right after you create them and not only when you close the app.

It would be great to be able to export scripts and use them on another computer.

Scripts could also get smarter and allow for parameters, like variables in filenames, image processing based conditions (if there is more that x% blue in the image…) for example.

    Thank you,
    R.

Aaron M. – if your audio is only coming out of one side of your stereo speakers, pull the plug out til it clicks (not quite all the way, you’ll feel it pop). It’ll throw your speakers into mono, and you’ll get sound through both.

    Just a tip. :)

Wow, I was REALLY hoping they’d done more with layerstyles.

They are incredibly powerful for creating repeatable, editable effects, yet, still so obviously lacking.

Why don’t blending modes work between layer styles instead of layerstyles to layers? If I set a gradient stroke, why does it multiply to the background instead of the gradient fill I have?

Why can’t I reorder the layerstyles? What if I want my pattern to go on top of my gradient fill and blend via multiply? Can’t do that.

Why can I only have ONE stroke (or ONE fill, or ONE pattern) per layerstyle? I don’t want to use multiple layers with the exact same pixel content when one could do.

And one small annoyance that has made me open layerstyles WAY more than necessary – why doesn’t the gradient get saved when I type in a name and enter? I ALWAYS forget to hit the “New” button, and it shouldn’t be necessary. You’d think I’d have learned it by now, but I always forget and have to reopen the layer style dialog. :(

    Very very impressive.
One thing that i hope has been improved for the usability is the layer panel when you have layers with styles. When you have let say 50 layers with styles applied to them, you end up scrolling and closing the layer submenu showing the style for every one of them. a toggle button “show/hide all styles” would be appreciated.

Looks great. I don’t get paid by Adobe, but I thought the CS4 was a lot better than CS3, which in turn, was a heck of a lot better than CS2.

For all the Adobe haters, show me anything that can compete with the Creative Suite. There is nothing. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Alternatively, be a capitalist and produce rival software.

Absolutely agree with Eli. For those familiar with it, there were significant improvements from CS3 to CS4 ( new adjustment layers/masking panel – huge time savings for photographers, rotate canvas tool for tablet users, again hugely useful, faster running speed, GPU acceleration, significantly improved 3D and animation manipulation etc etc)
If you don’t like it stick to GIMP or Corel paint or whatever, leave CS5 to the professionals, who appreciate it, and stop your whinging.

  30. I know there’s no time for new feature suggestions, but for CS6 it would be nice if we were able to use all the transform-types on smart-objects and type layers.
We can warp them, but not perspective distort? That’s annoying…

(unless you have ninja-enabled this in CS5)
